From Word to Material: A Formal Reading of Abdel Rahman El-Abnoudi's Poetry
Abstract
This research presents a contemporary model of interaction between literature and the visual arts, where the poem transforms into a visual space, and the material becomes a language capable of conveying human emotion in all its depth and sincerity. Through her research and specialization in fine art, the artist has established an artistic experience that combines authenticity and modernity, folk heritage and modern artistic trends. This underscores that fine art is no longer a field based solely on technical skill, but has become an intellectual and aesthetic medium capable of producing a comprehensive visual discourse. The works reveal an academic awareness of the nature of the relationship between the poetic text and the artwork. The poems were not used for illustration or embellishment, but rather as a starting point for constructing independent artistic visions. These visions rediscovered the poetry of Abdel Rahman El-Abnoudi through the language of material, texture, mass, space, and symbol. In this way, the experience transcends the boundaries of mere imitation, establishing a creative dialogue between word and image, and between poetry and material, within a framework of integration that enriches both experiences. The true value of this project lies not only in its inspiration from the poetry of one of the most important Egyptian colloquial poets, but also in its ability to reinterpret this poetry within a contemporary artistic framework. This framework places humanity at the center of its vision, the popular environment as a source of identity, the raw material as a record of memory, and art as a means of reflecting on human issues that remain relevant regardless of the passage of time. Thus, this research becomes more than just a collection of artworks; it is a visual research project that affirms art's capacity to revitalize literary texts in a new form. It demonstrates that artworks possess the aesthetic and expressive potential to serve as a cognitive and cultural medium, connecting heritage and creativity, human memory and contemporary artistic vision. In this context, the artist presents an experience worthy of consideration as a qualitative addition to research and artistic practices in art education. This is due to the integration of concept, raw material, artistic construction, and the human dimension, an experience that confirms that true art does not merely represent reality, but rediscovers it and breathes new life into it.
